President Trump and House Speaker to Meet AI Executives at the White House

President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson will meet with executives from major AI companies at the White House on Tuesday. This meeting is in response to the growing pressure on lawmakers to address the fast-paced development of AI technology, with some experts warning that it could pose significant risks to humanity.

Among the attendees will be Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Palantir CEO Alex Karp, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, as confirmed by company spokespeople.

House Speaker Johnson emphasized the need to strike a “right balance” between regulation and innovation. He expressed concerns about excessive red tape potentially endangering national security and hindering continued innovation. “A balance is what we’re after,” he noted during an interview with Fox Business.

Mr. Trump held a private dinner with Amodei, who advocates for safeguards within the industry. Ahead of the dinner, the President indicated that AI regulations would be a key topic of discussion.

The state dinner hosted by Mr. Trump with Chinese President Xi Jinping last week included some of the same executives attending Tuesday’s meeting, such as OpenAI’s Sam Altman.

Executives like Amodei and Altman have advocated for restrictions on AI progression to manage risks, whereas others, including Huang, argue that such warnings are overstated and could hinder America’s technological edge over China. Mr. Trump has dismissed some concerns about AI development as exaggerated, calling them a “hoax.” He plans to initiate a federal “AI force.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, representing South Dakota, will not attend the White House meeting but hopes for a productive outcome. Thune has scheduled meetings with some of the executives later in the week.

The meeting coincides with a separate event in Washington, where AI will be a topic of discussion. President Trump is expected to speak and announce a new online portal for the federal government, according to a White House official.
