The possibility of Jaxson Dart returning to the New York Giants for the playoffs has fans hopeful. Dr. Drew Burdi, a former college quarterback now foot-and-ankle surgeon, has not ruled out Dart’s postseason comeback, assuming the Giants qualify. “He’s a good player. I’m not sure if they’ll rush him back, but in some cases, he might return,” Burdi told OutKick.
Dart had surgery on his left knee on September 25 for meniscus repair and MCL, PCL damage. Although Burdi doesn’t specialize in knee surgeries, he advises against rushing Dart’s comeback, fearing long-term repercussions. “Holding him out is likely more prudent. Career risks outweigh the benefits of a single season. Giants might just keep him on the bench,” said Burdi. He cited past examples like Robert Griffin III, emphasizing that a solid recovery is critical for players.
John Harbaugh, Giants head coach, declared Dart out of the regular season but left open the option of a playoff return. Recovery is expected to be four to six months, putting a potential return by January 25, 2027. This would be days before the NFL Divisional Round. Harbaugh noted this ambition might be overly optimistic. “I think he tweeted he’d be back for playoffs. Maybe he texted me that,” Harbaugh mentioned in a lighthearted tone.
The Giants must secure a playoff spot for Dart’s return to matter. They currently lead the NFC East with a 3-1-1 record, outperforming divisional rivals. The Philadelphia Eagles stand at 2-3, struggling with three straight losses and key injuries like quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Dallas Cowboys also share a 2-3 record, hindered by a defense ranked 27th in the league, conceding an average of 27.2 points per game. Despite roster changes, they recently lost to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-16.
The Washington Commanders, now 1-3-1, recently tied with poor game management highlighted by head coach Dan Quinn and QB Jayden Daniels. With the NFC East adversaries faltering, the Giants see an opportunity. Maintaining current momentum could secure them the divisional title and dreams of Dart’s impact. The Giants are unbeaten without Dart at 2-0-1 and face the 1-4 New Orleans Saints on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
