Police are actively searching for a gunman involved in the shooting of a Walmart employee during a dispute between two men at a Pennsylvania store on Friday evening. The incident occurred at the Walmart located at 50 McDade Blvd. in Darby Township, Delaware County. Officers responded shortly after 7 p.m. following reports of gunfire inside the store.
Darby Township Police Chief Michael Sousa described the incident, stating that investigators believe the two men initiated a verbal altercation in the self-checkout area. During the dispute, one of the men drew a handgun and fired a shot indiscriminately. Tragically, the bullet struck a female Walmart employee in the leg rather than the intended target of the argument.
The injured employee was promptly transported to a hospital. At the time of reporting, Chief Sousa did not provide updates on her condition.
The suspect managed to flee the scene before officers arrived and is currently at large. Police are examining surveillance footage to identify the shooter.
Chief Sousa assured the community that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Officers have cleared the Walmart and the surrounding businesses.
