The Philadelphia Eagles experienced a brief appearance from quarterback Andy Dalton during their Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears, resulting in significant changes. Dalton, aged 38, entered the game when starting quarterback Jalen Hurts faced a temporary injury. At that point, the Eagles were trailing 7-0 in the second quarter and were on a pivotal third-and-goal from the Bears’ 2-yard line.
On Dalton’s first play, he took the shotgun snap but an interception by rookie safety Dillon Thieneman halted the Eagles’ drive. This single misstep led to a swift decision by the team to release Dalton. The Eagles promptly moved Tanner McKee to the backup quarterback position, relegating Dalton to No. 3 before ultimately cutting him from the roster entirely.
Throughout his NFL career, Dalton played for six teams, including a significant nine-year tenure as a starter with the Cincinnati Bengals. Post-Bengals, he served as a backup for various teams: one season each with the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints, three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, and most recently, with the Eagles.
Dalton’s career includes playing in 180 NFL games, starting 169 of those, and achieving an overall record of 84 wins, 83 losses, and 2 ties. He has completed 62.6% of his pass attempts, accumulating a total of 39,793 passing yards, 254 touchdowns, and 152 interceptions.
As the Eagles adjust to roster changes, they look forward to their next match against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. The game is scheduled for Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET. The Eagles hold a 2-2 record, while the Jaguars lead with 3-1.
