Paul Pelosi Faces Hit-and-Run Charge in Yountville

Representative Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, faces a hit-and-run charge after an incident in Yountville, California. The Napa County Sheriff’s Office released this information recently.

A family spokesperson stated that Paul Pelosi apologized to the vehicle’s owner and assured responsibility for damages. Speaker Pelosi will not comment further on this personal issue.

Incident Details

The sheriff’s office reported the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. Friday in Napa County’s wine country. A witness called 911, reporting a brown convertible hit a parked, unoccupied vehicle, causing rear damage before leaving the scene.

Investigators identified the 86-year-old Paul Pelosi as the driver. No injuries were reported, and he was not arrested for the misdemeanor offense. The department will refer a driver re-evaluation to the California DMV, a standard procedure for elderly drivers.

Paul Pelosi told deputies he knew he hit something but continued driving until his car became disabled. No alcohol was detected in his system, ruling out a Driving Under the Influence charge.

Previous Legal Issues

In May 2022, Paul Pelosi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI charges in Napa County. He received a five-day jail sentence and three years of probation, but served only two days, with credits for good conduct reducing his sentence. He completed a work program for the remaining day.

As part of probation, he attended a three-month drinking driver class and installed an ignition interlock device. He paid about $5,000 in victim restitution and nearly $2,000 in fines.

A 1957 San Francisco Examiner article reported Paul, at 16, drove in an accident that killed his 19-year-old brother, David. The neck brace David wore allegedly strangled him when the car flipped.

About Paul Pelosi

Paul gained attention in October 2022 when an intruder attacked him in his San Francisco home. The assailant, David DePape, broke in, assaulting Paul with a hammer, resulting in multiple injuries. Paul was hospitalized and had surgery for a skull fracture and injuries to his right arm and hand.

DePape sought Nancy Pelosi, then House Speaker, who was absent during the attack. A California judge sentenced DePape to 30 years in prison.

Paul Pelosi runs Financial Leasing Service, a venture capital investment and consulting firm. He once owned the Sacramento Mountain Lions football team. Paul, born and raised in San Francisco, married Nancy in 1963.
