Oregon quarterback Dante Moore was taken off the field on a stretcher following a late hit during a game against USC at the Coliseum. The incident occurred on Saturday, where Moore was tackled by USC linebacker Desman Stephens II after a late slide.
USC responded by suspending Stephens for one game. Stephens had celebrated the hit, triggering outrage from Oregon players and spectators. His actions almost led to a fight between the teams and were caught on camera.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley addressed the incident stating, “Desman’s actions are not representative of USC football.” Stephens will not play in the upcoming game against Washington.
Stephens also issued a public apology, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation and expressing regret for his behavior. He stated, “I am deeply sorry to Dante, his family, and everyone who witnessed my actions.”
At present, Oregon has not released a detailed update on Moore’s condition. However, reports indicate he suffered a concussion but was cleared to travel back to Eugene with his team.
This incident has drawn significant attention and discussions at various levels regarding player safety and sportsmanship in college football.
