Ohio Representative Faces Calls for Resignation Amid Abuse Allegations

An increasing number of Republican figures are urging Ohio Representative Max Miller to resign following serious accusations made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno. While Miller denies these allegations, they gained national attention after his response on a livestream.

Moreno’s father, Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, publicly criticized Miller, expressing concern for his daughter and granddaughter’s safety. Despite this, Miller insists on continuing his reelection campaign. A spokesperson for Ohio’s Secretary of State mentioned that the deadline to replace a candidate is August 10, and the replacement would be decided by local party leaders.

Miller’s ex-wife claims he threatened her with a gun, physically assaulted her, and scalded her with hot water, according to court documents. Although no criminal charges have been filed, Miller disputes these claims and has filed a defamation lawsuit against Moreno, which her legal team seeks to dismiss.

Miller has asked the House Ethics Committee to investigate the allegations, asserting he has nothing to conceal. He questioned the legitimacy of the accusations on a recent livestream, citing past interactions with Moreno that he argues contradict her claims.

Emily Moreno’s spokesperson, Stefan Mychajliw, criticized Miller’s attempt to discredit his ex-wife, emphasizing existing evidence of his alleged violent behavior. Democrats have condemned the allegations, and a growing number of Republicans are now voicing opposition to Miller’s reelection campaign in Ohio’s 7th congressional district.

Montana Senator Tim Sheehy commented on a separate incident involving a toy belonging to Miller’s daughter, implying questionable behavior and suggesting Miller should step down to prevent losing the congressional seat to Democrats. Sheehy’s sentiment was echoed by other Republicans who believe Miller should prioritize his family’s welfare.

Ohio Senator Jon Husted expressed contentment with the House Ethics Committee’s investigation, stating that any congressional member involved in domestic abuse should resign. He advises reflection on the impact of these decisions on Miller’s daughter.

Alabama Senator Katie Britt also recommended Miller resign and abandon his candidacy, aligning with Moreno’s family in support of his daughter and granddaughter.

Kansas Senator Roger Marshall, while trusting Bernie Moreno’s integrity, also agreed that Miller should step down based on available information.

Moreno expressed that the ordeal has been grueling and asserted Miller’s character makes him unsuitable for office. Many Republicans are supporting this viewpoint, indicating broad agreement within the party about Miller’s potential resignation.
