North Dakota Faces Costly SNAP Soda Ban Implementation

There is increasing concern regarding the financial implications of North Dakota’s impending soda ban within its SNAP program. Scheduled for enforcement this month, the policy aimed to restrict the purchase of candy, soda, and sugary drinks using federal food assistance.

The federal government had previously encouraged states to adopt similar measures. However, it unexpectedly requested North Dakota to delay the soda ban’s execution to November 1, just days before the initial implementation date. This postponement provides the state with an opportunity to consider the significant expenses associated with enforcing the policy.

Amy Dalrymple from the North Dakota Monitor, an independent outlet focused on state governance and public policy, reports on these developments as they unfold within the Peace Garden State.
