Sean McVay – Los Angeles Rams
The primary reason Sean McVay ranks first over Kyle Shanahan is his Super Bowl victory. Although Shanahan is considered a superior coach and play-caller by some, McVay holds a Lombardi trophy. McVay’s accomplishments are notable. His record stands at 92-57. He’s reached the playoffs in seven of his nine seasons, won four division titles, appeared in three NFC Championship Games, coached in two Super Bowls, and claimed one victory. With recent trades, including acquiring Myles Garrett, and possibly Aaron Donald returning, McVay may lead the Rams to another Super Bowl.
Kyle Shanahan – San Francisco 49ers
Since 2019, the 49ers have been successful, yet a Super Bowl win eludes them. Under Shanahan, the team has made five playoff appearances, four NFC Championship Games, and two Super Bowl appearances, securing three division titles. Despite setbacks, players like Brock Purdy, Nick Bosa, and Christian McCaffrey return healthy. Alongside a strong defense, the 49ers are poised for another playoff run in 2026, potentially needing to face McVay.
Mike Macdonald – Seattle Seahawks
Despite having a Super Bowl ring, Macdonald’s coaching career is relatively new at just two years compared to Shanahan’s. Seattle’s recent Super Bowl win was driven by exceptional defensive plays. Macdonald’s record stands at 24-10, including a championship. With key players, including Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, returning, Seattle holds potential for further achievement. Macdonald may soon narrow the gap with his counterparts.
Mike LaFleur – Arizona Cardinals
Mike LaFleur faces a challenging inaugural year compared to his accomplished brother. The Cardinals, led by Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, struggle defensively.
