The NBA season is gearing up, and with preseason action already underway, attention turns to the most anticipated awards and betting opportunities of the year. The league has consistently delivered excitement with different teams clinching the championship over the past nine years. However, the awards have shown less variability, though potential contenders for the coveted MVP title could offer some interesting betting opportunities.
MVP Contenders
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has claimed the MVP award for the past two years. Historically, Larry Bird was the last player to win three consecutive MVP titles from 1983 to 1986. Sports enthusiasts might consider relinquishing hopes for a third for Gilgeous-Alexander this season. Victor Wembanyama, who showcased considerable prowess last season, currently sits at odds of +210. While promising, the figure might be too low to warrant investment.
Nikola Jokic, a regular MVP finalist, achieved a milestone by averaging triple-doubles the last two seasons. Unfortunately, he hasn’t won the MVP in either year. His odds at +500 may make him a worthwhile consideration for betting enthusiasts.
If you’re seeking longer odds, consider Anthony Edwards or Cade Cunningham. Edwards, with odds at +1800, leads a competitive Timberwolves team and continuously enhances his performance. Should his team attain a top-three position in the West, his odds might justify attention. Cunningham carries the Pistons and saw them top the East last year. Cunningham’s leadership and growth could finally earn him deserved recognition.
Rookie of the Year Predictions
The NBA Draft saw AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cam Boozer, and Caleb Wilson selected in expected order. The 2003 Draft was monumental, and this recent one might be comparable in impact. Expect Dybantsa to gradually adapt, minimizing his role initially. Boozer aims to invigorate Memphis, though the projection looks challenging.
Consider Darryn Peterson, potentially a scorer for the Jazz. Caleb Wilson of the Chicago Bulls could play a significant role, though doubts persist about his shooting prowess. For betting, Peterson appears promising with odds at +340.
You could also opt for Keaton Wagler at +3500. Wagler’s pivotal role for the Clippers might lead him to shine as a transformative asset.
6th Man of the Year
DeMar DeRozan emerges as an interesting candidate at +1800 odds for 6th Man of the Year. With plenty of ability left, DeRozan leverages his skills from the Denver bench, excelling especially when Jokic and Jamal Murray aren’t on the floor.
Additional awards offer prospects, though betting on Defensive Player of the Year, including Victor Wembanyama, may not yield worthwhile returns.
