Celebrating National Hot Dog Day with Entrepreneurs

Matt D’Arcy and Keith Stedronsky, founders of Dogs Out, appeared on ‘Fox & Friends First’ to honor National Hot Dog Day. The young entrepreneurs discussed their hot dog eating competition college tour, which started in the Northeast, and shared the story of building their Jersey Shore hot dog stand over the past five years. They also revealed the launch of their new website.

National Hot Dog Day Promotions

On July 15, numerous food retailers nationwide offer promotions to celebrate National Hot Dog Day. Americans consume approximately 20 billion hot dogs annually, equating to 70 hot dogs per person, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC). Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, an estimated 7 billion hot dogs are consumed, a figure that could stretch from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles over five times.

Deals at Top Retailers

Gas stations, convenience stores, and traditional restaurants present various deals on hot dogs, one of America’s beloved summer foods:

  • 7-Eleven: App users get two roller grill items, including the Big Bite hot dog, for $3.50. The Big Bite is an all-beef, quarter-pound hot dog customizable with sauces and condiments at the Big Bite bar.
  • Speedway and Stripes stores: Rewards members enjoy similar deals as 7-Eleven.
  • Circle K: Roller grill hot dogs cost $1 via the store’s app.
  • Cumberland Farms: Offers two hot dogs for $3 until July 20.
  • Love’s: App users receive a free hot dog.
  • Sheetz: Partners with Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs for deals including two free hot dogs via the app along with fuel purchase. Launching the ‘Big Glizzy,’ featuring an extra-large Nathan’s stadium-style hot dog.

Promotions from Other Chains

Krystal Rewards members can receive a free Classic Pup, Corn Pup, or Chili Cheese Pup with a $5 purchase. Dogs Out founders promote hot dogs with a “high-energy” eating competition for college fraternities, offering a cash prize and championship belt. Dog Haus, based in California, provides rewards members with a free Haus Dog and additional offers. The Philly Pretzel Factory sells $1 pretzel dogs, and app users get a free pretzel dog.

  • Portillo’s: Restaurant members spending $5 or more can earn a hot dog for $1.
  • Shake Shack: Classic Hot Dog with Classic Fries or Lemonade offered for $8 through the app using promo code SUMMERDOG.
  • Sonic: ‘Dog Days of Summer’ app-exclusive hot dog and corn dog offers.
  • Wienerschnitzel: Selling four chili dogs for $4.
  • Tom Thumb: Two hot dogs for $3 until July 20.
