The Mt. Olive Pickle Company, based in Mount Olive, North Carolina, made the decision to withdraw from the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C. The withdrawal came after a Confederate flag was displayed in an exhibit at the fair.
The company had been invited to participate in the exhibit representing North Carolina and initially agreed to join in showcasing the best of the state. They expressed pride in their North Carolina roots and intended to contribute positively to the exhibit.
Despite North Carolina’s absence from the fair due to budget constraints, representation continued through participation from local companies. However, the inclusion of a Confederate flag in a video at the North Carolina exhibit was not known to Mt. Olive Pickle Co. at the time of their agreement. Following this discovery, they chose to withdraw from the event.
“Our company stands on values of human dignity, opportunity, and freedom,” Mt. Olive Pickle Company emphasized in their statement.
Visitors to the North Carolina booth can still engage with other participants. Highlights include Operation Helo’s discussions on rapid response disaster relief and a photo opportunity with a NASCAR stock car provided by Richard Childress Racing.
The Great American State Fair spans from June 25 to July 10, offering various displays and engagements to its attendees.
