The Miss North Carolina USA pageant winner, Brittany Boltinhouse, recently had her title revoked. The decision stems from scrutiny over her past online speech, not her conservative or Christian beliefs.
Organizers clarified in a statement that their decision was not motivated by Boltinhouse’s political or religious viewpoints. “Our organization includes people from various backgrounds, political views, personal beliefs, and values. We welcome and celebrate that,” said the organization holding the North Carolina state license for the Miss USA pageant.
Boltinhouse, 27, expressed her belief that her title was taken due to her stance as a conservative Christian. She stated, “I am proud of my faith, proud of my standards, and I love this country.” Despite her loss, she sees this setback as a “blessing in disguise,” indicating gratitude that another young woman does not have to face similar scrutiny.
The organization’s review included previously undisclosed conduct and public content spanning multiple years. These did not align with the responsibilities expected of a Miss North Carolina USA titleholder, according to their statement.
The scrutiny involved resurfacing social media posts where Boltinhouse used objectionable language, including the N-word. Miss USA President and CEO Thom Brodeur emphasized that the pageant does not tolerate language that undermines human dignity.
The Miss North Carolina USA title now belongs to Myla Hadley, the first runner-up. She will represent the state at the upcoming Miss USA pageant in Miami.
Boltinhouse maintains her right to her beliefs and emphasizes the freedom of expression in her interviews. She acknowledges that everyone makes mistakes, referencing past posts from 2017-2019, and stands by her character, previously recognized by her Miss Congeniality award.
