Minnesota Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Klobuchar faces criticism from her Republican opponent and social media users. They accuse her of campaigning on the issue of a major fraud scandal without addressing it in any press release since the crisis began.
A review by Fox News Digital showed that Klobuchar’s Senate office issued press releases on various fraud forms between 2022 and 2025. However, none of her releases mentioned or proposed solutions for Minnesota’s social-services fraud scandal, including the Feeding Our Future case.
The Feeding Our Future scandal surfaced in January 2022. Prosecutors estimate the fraud could total over $9 billion. Despite the severity of the issue, Klobuchar’s press releases from January 2022 to December 2025 did not mention terms related to various frauds affecting Minnesota.
Minnesota Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth expressed concern over Klobuchar’s silence during the unfolding scandal. She pointed out Klobuchar’s absence from hearings on fraud and her failure to initiate inquiries into the matter.
“As Feeding Our Future was breaking and all of the fraud that was being talked about, the absent voice that I was noticing was Senator Klobuchar,” said Demuth.
Demuth criticized Klobuchar for her inaction during a speech where she presented her own plan to combat fraud. She emphasized the significant loss of taxpayer money and the necessity for change.
Klobuchar, meanwhile, has centered her campaign on fighting fraud. Her campaign promises to conduct a state audit to address waste and abuse.
“It’s time for results, not excuses,” Klobuchar stated.
Despite Klobuchar’s primary election success, Demuth argues that her previous record will challenge her position. Klobuchar’s former praise for Governor Tim Walz, who did not seek re-election amid the scandal, is also under scrutiny.
Demuth expressed skepticism regarding Klobuchar’s commitment to fraud prevention, questioning her past decade’s involvement.
“Where were you for the last 10 years,” Demuth questioned. “She could have partnered with Governor Walz when our state was falling apart.”
Republicans in Minnesota are appealing to voters frustrated by the fraud scandal. They propose that voters are eager for change, supported by comments from Senate hopeful Michele Tafoya.
Demuth highlighted her fraud prevention efforts and the establishment of a Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee in 2025.
“Who are Minnesotans gonna trust for their next governor?” Demuth asked. “Somebody who has been fighting fraud this entire time?”
Fox News Digital has reached out to Klobuchar’s campaign for their response.
