Following their appearance in the national championship game, the Miami Hurricanes are capitalizing on their recent achievements by boosting their roster dramatically.
This offseason, the team successfully acquired transfer quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Cooper Barkate from their ACC rival, Duke. These additions are part of the Hurricanes’ strategy to lay a strong foundation for upcoming seasons with a standout recruiting class for 2027.
On Friday, Miami celebrated a major victory when A’mir Sears, a five-star cornerback, announced his commitment. Sears is rated as the second-best player in Florida and 11th overall nationally, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Miami was also the first team to offer him a scholarship.
“They have coaches that actually recruit,” Sears stated in a Rivals interview. “A lot of these schools are not recruiting honestly. They just send letters and generic texts. Miami has a real recruiting department.”
As a result of Sears’ decision, Miami now boasts five five-star commits, placing them just behind Texas A&M in terms of volume for the 2027 cycle. Only Miami, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame have secured four or more five-star commitments this year. Sears’ addition pushes Miami past Notre Dame and places them directly behind Texas A&M for the country’s No. 2 recruiting class. Sears joins other five-star talents like cornerback Donte Wright, quarterback Israel Abrams, wide receiver Nick Lennear, and edge-rusher Jaiden Bryant in Miami’s elite lineup.
Sears visited Coral Gables officially in March and expressed enthusiasm about his experience in a Rivals interview.
“Man, it was a vibe,” Sears recounted. “Played 3-on-3 basketball and ran the court for about nine straight games with Nick Lennear. I think playing for The U just excites me to put on for the crib.”
He further added, “I love how physical and gritty Miami is. That’s my type of football. The coaching and recruiting staff continues to show me love, which is great as well.”
