A joint training camp practice between the New York Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Florham Park, New Jersey, faced an unexpected halt on Tuesday due to a medical emergency involving Jets cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers. The player was taken off the field by ambulance after receiving an IV while on the turf.
The incident occurred at the Jets’ training facility. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn reported that Stiggers appeared to pass out on the bench but was conscious after the event. Glenn commended the prompt response of the medical team, indicating that Stiggers could communicate and was generally in good condition.
The practice took place under weather conditions reaching 85 degrees, with the region experiencing near triple-digit temperatures over the weekend. The practice session was also marked by multiple altercations, with at least three fights breaking out, involving Stiggers in one of them.
“Stiggers did not follow the traditional college route but played in the Fan Controlled League straight after high school. He later joined the Canadian Football League, playing for the Toronto Argonauts, and was selected by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.”
Stiggers’ journey to the NFL is notable for bypassing collegiate football. Drafted in 2024, he made 27 tackles and recovered two fumbles during last season, becoming the first player drafted from the CFL since 1999. This trajectory highlights his impact and uniqueness in professional football.
