Late Friday night, cameras captured at least two masked men knocking on residents’ doors in a Delaware neighborhood, with one carrying what appeared to be a rifle. The New Castle County Police Department released images showing a man in a tactical vest holding the item while knocking on a home’s front door.
Another photo shows a different individual approaching a door, dressed in a black vest and mask. Residents reported to police that a man in a black hockey-style mask and tactical vest approached homes while seemingly armed. The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. in the 1200 block of Canvasback Drive in Mallard Pointe, New Castle.
Police stated that the man knocked on doors before fleeing the scene. Authorities noted the presence of four men moving eastbound on Mallard Road, two on bicycles and two on foot. A search by officers and a K-9 unit failed to locate the individuals. While officers have not confirmed the authenticity of the firearms, the weapons might have been airsoft-style guns.
The department is seeking information or security footage related to the incident. Residents are encouraged to contact 911 or the department’s non-emergency line at 302-573-2800.
