Hezonja, once drafted by the Orlando Magic as the fifth overall pick in 2015, carried high expectations. His initial NBA career involved five seasons with teams such as Orlando, New York, and Portland. During this period, Hezonja delivered an average of 6.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists over 330 games. Ultimately, he chose to continue his career in Europe.
In Europe, Hezonja played for Real Madrid and became one of its top wings. He secured a EuroLeague title and received Liga Endesa MVP honors last season, establishing himself as one of Europe’s leading players.
As Hezonja returns to the NBA for the Cavaliers, the team views it as a low-risk move with potential benefits. The Cavaliers acquire a 6-foot-8 player with extensive experience at high levels outside the NBA. If Hezonja’s game adapts to the NBA, Cleveland might secure a valuable asset at a reasonable cost.
Though the Cavaliers missed the chance to bring back LeBron James, they might have discovered another opportunity with Hezonja’s return.
