Secretary of State Marco Rubio humorously expressed his love for Pop-Tarts while discussing the diet of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during a podcast interview with Katie Miller on Tuesday. Rubio, accompanied by his wife Jeanette, appeared on “The Katie Miller Podcast,” where the conversation turned to Kennedy’s reported eating habits, which include red meat and fermented vegetables.
Rubio commented jokingly, “This is a crazy diet. It consists of eating sauerkraut and meat. Now you understand, like, this is not a sustainable thing … He has to travel with coolers of sauerkraut! I’m not going to travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut. It’s ridiculous. I can’t do it.”
Despite the dietary criticism, Rubio expressed support for Kennedy’s “MAHA” or “Make America Healthy Again” movement. Meanwhile, Jeanette playfully challenged Rubio’s eating habits, accusing him of indulging in sweets regularly. Rubio responded, “No, I don’t eat Pop-Tarts every day,” to which his wife retorted, “You eat sweets.” Rubio added with humor, “The Pop-Tart is one of the great American innovations in the history of the world, if you think about it. It comes in this beautiful foil package.”
During the podcast, Rubio also touched upon memes that have circulated about him, particularly a viral image of him sitting on an Oval Office couch during a meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2025. Commenting on the meme, he said, “The meme thing, it was interesting because when it first came out, I hated that picture… And then it turned into this other thing. And it was fine, and it’s funny.”
Fox News Digital attempted to contact the HHS secretary and Mars Inc., which owns Pop-Tarts, but they did not immediately respond. Rubio, known for his humor and meme presence, is also considered a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential race. In a recent New Hampshire poll, he was only 10 points behind Vice President JD Vance.
