The Las Vegas Raiders are anxiously waiting for news on their star running back, Ashton Jeanty. He sustained a leg injury during practice on Sunday, which required assistance to leave the field. Witnesses noted he was unable to put any weight on his right leg.
Jeanty was hurt while attempting to catch a pass during a team exercise session. As he took the fall, the atmosphere in the indoor practice facility became tense and quiet. Teammates immediately gathered around, kneeling and offering prayers for Jeanty’s speedy recovery.
The Raiders have not released any information regarding the severity of Jeanty’s injury. Further details are expected after head coach Klint Kubiak’s scheduled talk with journalists on Tuesday.
Jeanty, sporting No. 2 for the Raiders, is coming off an impressive rookie season. Against the New York Giants at Allegiant Stadium, he showcased his skills during a warm-up. Throughout last year’s campaign, despite playing behind a struggling offensive line, Jeanty accumulated 975 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He also made an impact in the receiving department, grabbing 55 receptions for 346 yards with five additional touchdowns.
This season, Jeanty had limited participation in preseason games, carrying the ball only three times for 16 yards against the Arizona Cardinals. He was absent in the Raiders’ second preseason match against the Houston Texans.
If Jeanty is unavailable for upcoming games, the Raiders will rely on fourth-round pick Mike Washington Jr., along with Dylan Laube, Roman Hemby, and Dare Ogunbowale. Washington, who has shown promise during training camp, is likely to continue taking first-team reps in Jeanty’s absence.
