The Las Vegas Aces secured a victory against the Toronto Tempo, finishing the game with a score of 88-78 on Sunday night at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. A’ja Wilson led the Aces with a standout performance, contributing 27 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
The Toronto Tempo, holding a record of 11-26, hosted their second game at Rogers Arena. Despite attracting a large crowd of 15,877, the team continued their season struggles. They broke a 12-game losing streak with a previous victory over Portland, 82-79.
Jackie Young also made a significant impact for the Aces, scoring 21 points. With this win, the Aces improve their record to 26-13, closing in on second place in the WNBA standings, just half a game behind Golden State.
Kia Nurse was the top scorer for Toronto with 19 points, while teammates Kiki Rice and Temi Fagbenle added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
NaLyssa Smith’s layup extended the Aces’ lead to 10 points with one minute remaining in the second quarter. However, the Tempo responded with a 6-0 run, reducing the deficit to 43-39 by halftime. Early in the third quarter, Isabelle Harrison narrowed the gap to just two points, but the Tempo failed to take control.
Injury woes continue for the Tempo, with several key players sidelined. All-Star Marina Mabrey, Brittney Sykes, Nyara Sabally, Maria Conde, and Aneesah Morrow were unable to play. The team announced that Sykes and Morrow, injured during the win over Portland, would be out for the remainder of the season. Coach Sandy Brondello stated that Mabrey’s status would be reassessed in a few weeks.
