Kristaps Porzingis expressed gratitude for the support from NBA fans as he faces an indefinite absence due to an undisclosed health issue. However, he addressed unfounded rumors on social media suggesting he has contracted HIV or AIDS.
Porzingis has not participated in the Golden State Warriors’ training camp, leading to curiosity about his condition. With the regular season approaching, the situation remains unclear. Despite not revealing the specific health concern, Porzingis communicated through social media, providing an update on his condition.
“Hello people, I’m working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back to good health asap. Honestly, I’m getting better and better. I just have to stay patient, and I believe I’ll be feeling great again soon,” he wrote on X.
He acknowledged the frustration that comes with dealing with a health issue that is difficult to diagnose, especially given his history of injuries. Porzingis emphasized the importance of patience as he works toward recovery.
Acknowledging the buzz on social media, he added:
“I appreciate all the internet doctors trying to diagnose and help, but I’m in the best hands. So everyone can relax now and I don’t have HIV or AIDS.”
The Warriors were aware of Porzingis’s health situation when they signed him to a $40 million extension this offseason. Only $3 million of the upcoming season’s $20 million salary is guaranteed. His previous struggles with an upper respiratory virus during his time with the Boston Celtics have contributed to ongoing health challenges, limiting his playing time last season with the Atlanta Hawks and Warriors to 34 games.
Porzingis remains in contact with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and Rick Celebrini, the team’s director of sports medicine and performance, working diligently to return to the court. Speculation will persist until he decides to reveal more about his health, but he aims to focus on his recovery.
