Kevin Pollak Remembers Rip Torn
Actor Kevin Pollak didn’t hesitate to name Rip Torn as the craziest actor he ever worked with. During his appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Pollak shared stories from the set of “Canadian Bacon,” a film starring John Candy released after Torn’s death.
Pollak described Torn’s unpredictable behavior, noting that the late actor often suspected someone in the cast or crew of plotting against him. He humorously recalled Torn frequently mentioning his inclusion on former President Richard Nixon’s enemies list.
Torn kept his co-stars guessing with odd behavior, including repeatedly referencing Nixon’s list.
Pollak pointed out that no one dared to inquire about why Torn believed he was on that list. Some actors, like Kevin O’Connor, overheard Torn shouting through the thin walls of their hotel, leading them to compile a top 10 list of Torn’s most memorable shouted lines.
Memorable Incidents
One of the stories involves Torn shouting a peculiar line, “I said milk it like a cow,” to a hooker through the wall. This anecdote highlights Torn’s off-camera antics during the filming of “Canadian Bacon.”
Torn was a seasoned actor with a rich career in film, television, and theater. He earned an Academy Award nomination for “Cross Creek” and appeared in popular works like “Men in Black” and “The Larry Sanders Show.” His portrayal of Artie on “The Larry Sanders Show” earned him six consecutive Emmy nominations and an Emmy Award in 1996.
