A woman from Kentucky has been indicted for vandalizing the World War II Memorial on the National Mall, Washington, D.C. Melissa Farris faces arraignment next week on two felony counts. The charges include destroying the veterans’ memorial and damaging government property. As of Friday, her attorney hasn’t responded to email inquiries.
Farris, residing in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, allegedly spray-painted the words, ‘Clean hands dirty $’, on the monument. She is also accused of filling a fountain with bubbles on August 13. Despite this, she was released after her initial court appearance on August 17.
President Trump commented on the vandalism through social media, linking to previous unfounded claims regarding damage at the nearby Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. He stated, ‘Our beautiful World War II Memorial was just hit by Spray Painting Vandals. First the Reflecting Pool, now this.’
Previously, a former Olympian faced charges in July for damaging the Reflecting Pool. However, the Justice Department dismissed the case after receiving evidence that contradicted the accusation against the defendant.
