Journey drummer Deen Castronovo experienced a medical emergency during the band’s concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma, leading to his hospitalization on Thursday. The performance was halted after two songs as bandmates requested prayers from fans.
Castronovo, 62, left the stage and was taken to the hospital, as captured in a video on X. Keyboardist Jonathan Cain spoke to the audience, apologizing for the sudden stop and asking fans to keep Castronovo in their thoughts.
We’re going to see what happens as this progresses. It’s an unfortunate situation. We’re very sorry. We’re hoping it’s only a delay, but please, I’m sorry. Don’t worry. Have your prayers ready. Have your prayers ready for Deen Castronovo, everybody. Thank you.
Guitarist Neal Schon informed the crowd about the continuation of the concert, with Steve Toomey, the band’s drum technician, stepping in for Castronovo. Please give a big hand for Steve Toomey. We’ll be back in about 15 minutes. We love you all, we’re really sorry about the inconvenience,
Schon remarked.
Despite the interruption, the band resumed playing, with lead singer Arnel Pineda offering reassurance about Castronovo’s condition, joking, He’s gonna be fine. Too much Gatorade.
Schon dedicated the evening’s performance to Castronovo, expressing optimism about his recovery.
The cause of Castronovo’s medical situation remains undisclosed. Fox News Digital sought comments from Journey’s representatives, though no further details were provided.
Journey continues its farewell tour, dubbed the “Final Frontier Tour,” with upcoming performances through November. The tour includes band members Schon, Cain, Pineda, Castronovo, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, and bassist Todd Jensen. It began in February and ends in San Francisco on November 28.
Schon previously described the tour as a tribute to Journey’s music and its supportive fanbase, stating, The music we’ve created together is amazing. And so, you have to celebrate that music with the fans. The fans are incredible.
