Jon Gruden, known for his fiery coaching style and strategic acumen in football, made an appearance at a rally for President Donald Trump in Ohio. Despite his fame within the NFL, his political leanings as a conservative may have surprised some.
Gruden stood alongside Ohio Senator Jon Husted, who is campaigning for re-election, and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. The event took place in Vandalia, Ohio, where President Trump was speaking. As he addressed the crowd, a protester interrupted but was escorted out, prompting chants of ‘Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye’ from attendees. President Trump remarked on the spirited atmosphere, noting Gruden’s surprise by comparing it to the energy of a football game.
Gruden’s tenure in the NFL includes leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl victory and coaching the Oakland and Las Vegas Raiders before stepping down in 2021. At the rally, Husted introduced him to the crowd, highlighting their shared history as teammates at the University of Dayton.
‘I’ll be very brief, but I want to thank everybody for showing up,’ Gruden said. He expressed his Ohio roots with pride, sharing that he was born in Sandusky and educated at the University of Dayton. His hometown connection resonated with the crowd.
Gruden endorsed Husted, praising his athletic prowess and work ethic. Husted’s accomplishments include serving as an Ohio state representative, speaker, senator, secretary of state, and lieutenant governor, eventually becoming a U.S. senator in January 2025. His football career at Dayton was marked by excellence, contributing to a national championship win.
‘He will never quit, ever, on you or anybody,’ Gruden exclaimed, rallying the audience to support Husted in the upcoming election. Gruden emphasized the importance of early voting and encouraged everyone to mobilize their networks in support of Husted’s campaign.
