Former Biden White House press secretary Jen Psaki publicly criticized Katie Zacharia, President Donald Trump’s new press secretary, following Zacharia’s initial briefing at the White House. Psaki raised questions about Zacharia’s legal qualifications, referencing reports that her admission to a state bar could not be verified.
Psaki questioned Zacharia’s credentials on her show, The Briefing with Jen Psaki, suggesting that Zacharia’s legal qualifications were unclear. “Where is Katie Zacharia licensed to practice law? It remains a mystery. Perhaps she could clarify the situation,” Psaki said.
In response to Psaki’s comments, Zacharia provided a statement to Fox News Digital defending her professional background, stating, “I practiced international transaction law with all the appropriate credentials.” She earned her Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University in 2011, confirmed by the university following her appointment.
Pepperdine President Jim Gash, who knew Zacharia from her time as his research assistant, praised her after the announcement. “Pepperdine is proud to count Katie among our alumni,” Gash stated.
Republican National Committee spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre also defended Zacharia, criticizing Psaki’s show and her previous role under President Biden. “Jen Psaki is trying to regain relevance,” Baldassarre said, emphasizing Zacharia’s capabilities as a communicator.
Psaki expressed discomfort watching Zacharia’s introductory remarks, commenting, “Katie, I am uncomfortable after watching multiple times.” Zacharia thanked Trump for her appointment and expressed enthusiasm at joining the administration.
President Trump praised Zacharia’s performance, stating, “I thought she was very good.” The White House released a statement commending Zacharia’s briefing, noting the coverage it received and highlighting her remarks on the administration’s agenda.
