Israel Criticizes British Green Party’s Stance on Zionism

Israel has strongly criticized the British Green Party’s recent statement labeling Zionism as a form of racism. Israel’s official response termed this view a ‘stain on the history of the United Kingdom’ and urged political leaders in the UK to firmly denounce the controversial resolution.

The Green Party of England and Wales voted in favor of a motion during its conference in Brighton, declaring that Zionism supports an ‘ethnonationalist Jewish state’ and proposing a ‘single democratic Palestinian state in all of historic Palestine.’

The resolution argues that Zionism has historically involved the ‘dehumanisation, displacement, dispossession, disenfranchisement and destruction of Palestinians.’ The motion passed with 1,022 votes in favor and 813 against, showcasing a split within the party over this issue.

Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted on social media, asserting that the Green Party has stopped being a political entity and has become an institution that endorses terrorism. They accused the party of espousing not only the ideology of Hamas but its goal of dismantling the State of Israel through armed struggle.

‘The shocking resolution adopted legitimizes armed struggle, calls for a Palestinian state “from the river to the sea” – implying the destruction of the State of Israel – and brands the Jewish aspiration for self-determination as racist,’ the statement said.

The statement further criticized the resolution as exceeding the limits of acceptable political discourse. Israel demands that as long as the resolution stands, it tarnishes the history of the United Kingdom. The statement called on all British political parties, especially the ruling Labour Party, to reject the resolution decisively.
