Investigation Underway in Somerville Fatal Stabbing Case

Authorities in New Jersey are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing of a woman in her Somerville residence. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office reported that 46-year-old Alyne Espinal was found with multiple stab wounds to her chest, neck, and thigh, and she was declared dead at the scene.

Ignacio Espinal, her 55-year-old husband, was arrested in West New York, New Jersey, on Tuesday. He faces first-degree murder charges in connection with his wife’s death. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, he is also charged with third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and third-degree hindering.

The incident was reported when officers responded to a 911 call made on Thursday before 7:30 p.m., expressing concern for a woman’s welfare on Brookside Avenue. Upon arrival, investigators confirmed that Alyne Espinal had multiple stab wounds in her Somerville apartment.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that the investigation is preliminary and ongoing. It involves interviewing witnesses, reviewing both physical and electronic records, and analyzing forensic evidence.
