After the game, Clark expressed her frustration with the officiating. She highlighted a missed call when Kiah Stokes made contact with her. Clark said, “I got kneed right in the quad, like that hurts. The ref can’t miss that, and then I had to play with a contusion in my leg for the rest of the game.” She recounted the referee’s explanation that she had “initiated the contact” with Stokes, leading to no foul call against the Valkyries player.
“It’s ridiculous. Can’t miss calls like that,” Clark remarked at the postgame press conference.
Despite her complaints about the officiating and her injury, Clark acknowledged Golden State’s strong defense. “They’re in my grill. They’re probably the best defensive team in the league. They’re really good at that. I thought I finally played with a little more pace and a little bit more burst, especially down the stretch in the fourth,” she noted.
Clark has been playing under a minutes restriction and has been sitting out games due to a persistent back injury. Concerns grow over the aggressive play aimed at her. Weeks ago, an incident involving Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas, who struck Clark’s throat, also raised controversy. Initially a no-call, the league later upgraded Thomas’s action to a Flagrant Foul 2, resulting in a one-game suspension. This incident, among others, has led to criticism of the WNBA’s officiating, with claims that Clark is not receiving fair treatment.
As of Wednesday’s loss, the Indiana Fever’s record stands at 14-10. They will host the Seattle Storm at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, aiming to return to their winning form.
