Inappropriate Behavior on EVA Air Flight Raises Concerns

A recent incident aboard an EVA Air flight left passengers shocked and uncomfortable. A business-class traveler decided to scratch his scalp using a drinking glass during the flight from Taiwan on September 24. This peculiar act was captured on video by another passenger and circulated widely, highlighting unusual behavior during a premium travel experience.

The video shows the man vigorously using the rim of the glass to rub his scalp, much to the dismay of fellow travelers. The sight prompted complaints from a witness, who remarked, “This is disgusting. It’s a cup, not a massage comb.” The incident reportedly dampened the appetite of some passengers anticipating the meal service.

Despite the unsettling event, the EVA Air flight landed safely. Founded in 1989, the Taiwanese airline continues to operate flights worldwide. However, this incident has reignited discussions about personal conduct in public spaces.

The accompanying complaint from eyewitnesses was that such behavior is inappropriate, especially in shared environments like airplanes.

Diane Gottsman, an etiquette expert from Texas, emphasized the impropriety of using objects for personal grooming in public. She stated that seeing someone scratching with any object in public is both unappealing and alarming, reinforcing the need for travelers to be mindful of their surroundings.

The incident is not isolated; reports of inappropriate behavior during air travel are increasingly common. In 2026, a passenger received criticism for placing feet up against a window, sparking outrage from another passenger in the same flight class.

As Gottsman noted, individuals are expected to adjust their behavior in public compared to when they are in private. This awareness ensures a comfortable environment for everyone involved.
