Impact of Job Cuts at Cheverly PepsiCo Plant on Local Community

In Cheverly, Maryland, local officials are expressing concern over the consequences of significant job cuts at a prominent production plant. The layoffs have raised alarms about the potential economic and social impact on the community.

James McPherson, a long-time employee, marked 21 years with PepsiCo on September 13. Unfortunately, the celebration was short-lived; he received a layoff notice the following day. McPherson recalls waking up at 1 a.m., conditioned by years of routine, as if preparing to report to work at the PepsiCo facility.

The plant, located at 2611 Pepsi Place, has been a major employer in the area. The job reductions have left many workers, like McPherson, facing an uncertain future. The local government is concerned about the ripple effect these layoffs could have on Cheverly’s economy and its residents.
