Immigrant Shares Perspective on Legal Immigration and U.S. Policies

A legal immigrant from Trinidad, who became a U.S. citizen after a nearly decade-long process, expressed strong views on birth tourism and illegal immigration. Kris Ramsingh, a business owner in Virginia, shared his thoughts with Fox News Digital, describing these practices as insulting to those who legally immigrated to the U.S.

Kris Ramsingh’s Journey

Ramsingh immigrated in 2006 and became a citizen in 2015. His experience of following the legal process influenced his support for former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. He highlighted how illegal immigration seems unfair to those who worked hard to enter the country lawfully.

The Legal Immigration Process

Unlike illegal entrants, Ramsingh had to meet several federal requirements to obtain citizenship. This included providing vaccine records, personal documents, passing a criminal background check, and evidencing financial stability, ensuring he wouldn’t rely on public support.

“America doesn’t owe us anything,” Ramsingh stated, adding that legal immigrants have the privilege of entering the country.

American Independence and Pride

The week of Independence Day marks the anniversary of Ramsingh’s arrival in the U.S. with limited resources. Reflecting on his time in Roanoke, Virginia, he expressed deep pride in the American flag, recalling how American military intervention during a coup in Trinidad assured his safety.

Entrepreneurial Success and Missionary Work

Ramsingh established Dominion Custom Upholstery and other ventures in the U.S., living the American Dream by trying, failing, and trying again. He also founded Dominion Project International, a missionary organization providing aid in India, Africa, and the Caribbean.

Pride in U.S. Citizenship

As a U.S. citizen, Ramsingh feels secure and proud upon returning from trips abroad. He lamented attitudes of some who criticize America while taking advantage of its opportunities.

Views on U.S. Immigration Policy

Addressing allegations of anti-immigrant sentiment among Trump supporters, Ramsingh argued that they advocate for legal immigration. He criticized the Biden administration’s border policies, describing the situation as an “invasion” but not opposing immigration per se.

Ramsingh empathized with people from developing countries who seek a better life in the U.S. but underscored the importance of adhering to legal channels.
