Illinois Man Charged with Killing and Dismembering Half-Brother

An Illinois man is accused of fatally stabbing his half-brother during a heated argument. Authorities report that the suspect, James Adams, worked with the victim’s wife, Robin Turner, to dismember and hide the body. They allegedly froze the head, neck, and torso while discarding other body parts in a lake.

James Adams, 26, and Robin Turner, 62, face charges related to concealment of a homicide and dismembering a human body. The victim, Dalewayne Turner, 38, was identified through tattoos on his remains found in Lake Mattoon by boaters on June 28.

Authorities quickly identified Adams and Turner as suspects, taking them into custody. Court documents reveal Adams admitted to the stabbing, claiming self-defense. Turner reportedly did not contact authorities after the incident. She claimed the men argued in the living room, leading to the stabbing.

The suspects are alleged to have attempted to hide evidence by using bleach, repainting parts of the home, removing paneling, and burning it in a fire pit. Investigators found some of the victim’s remains in a freezer, pointing to extensive efforts to conceal the crime.

Investigators searching the home found a downstairs freezer with signs of blood. Inside, they discovered a torso, neck, and head, but no limbs. Human remains in trash bags were found in the lake as well, hinting at an attempt to weigh them down. One bag tore, allowing Turner’s tattooed arm to surface.

Authorities recovered additional remains in the lake. The suspects are scheduled for a detention hearing on Thursday. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign has raised over $1,300 to cover funeral costs, expressing deep family sorrow over the tragic loss of Dalewayne Turner.
