A Cuban national, identified by ICE as unlawfully present in the U.S., has been associated with a burglary case in South Florida. Geybert Alexander Garcia, 40, and Melany Pavon-Perdomo, 24, were detained on August 25, as revealed by arrest documents and Miami-Dade court records.
ICE representatives noted that Pavon-Perdomo was encountered at the Turner Guilford Knight Center after the Coral Gables police apprehended her for grand theft and burglary. An ICE detainer was placed on August 25. It’s known Pavon-Perdomo entered the country at an undetermined time and place and hasn’t adjusted her immigration status.
The two allegedly stole high-end items, such as luxury vehicles, documentation, jewelry, and artwork, from a property owned by Henry Parra and Adam Hlavaty. These men were among seven people killed in a helicopter crash on August 19 in Kenya. The appraised value of their property is nearly $3 million.
The helicopter accident took place during a flight from the Loisaba Conservancy to the Ewaso Nyiro area in Kenya’s Samburu County. The U.S. State Department confirmed five Americans among those deceased, including notable figures such as Miami restaurateur Roger Duarte, and José Suárez, who led Telemundo-owned stations in Florida.
Henry Parra, a former Navy aviation support technician, and Adam Hlavaty, a real estate executive, were known for their community involvement. Friends described them as a loving couple dedicated to supporting others.
On August 12, Parra and Hlavaty departed their home, planning for their housekeeper’s daily visits. Officers stated the residence remained intact after their death. Between August 20 and 22, the property was broken into, with various valuable items stolen. This included a 2023 Land Rover Range Rover and a 2020 Porsche Taycan.
Investigators tracked a stolen MacBook using Apple’s Find My service to a northwest Miami-Dade residence. Both vehicles were discovered parked nearby, leading to a search warrant and the discovery of Garcia in a second-floor closet and Pavon-Perdomo in a bedroom.
Recovered items included the victims’ documents, a Range Rover key fob, and valuable artworks. Materials for producing false identification documents were also found.
Garcia faces charges of unoccupied dwelling burglary, grand theft of a vehicle, and first-degree grand theft. Pavon-Perdomo is charged similarly, with first-degree grand theft added. Their court appearances are set for September 28.
An ICE spokesperson emphasized crackdowns on criminal illegal aliens, ensuring they face legal consequences. Legal representation for Garcia and Pavon-Perdomo wasn’t immediately available for comment.
