An illegal immigrant from Venezuela is accused of stabbing a father to death in a California sanctuary city. This alleged murder took place just a day after a judge released the suspect on his own recognizance. Federal authorities are now urging Governor Gavin Newsom to surrender the suspect for deportation.
Additionally, Isaac Melendez-Carranza, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, faces charges of distributing fentanyl near a Virginia high school. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), he was arrested on August 20. Melendez-Carranza is held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. DHS disclosed that an immigration judge issued a deportation order against him in July 2024.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office identified Melendez-Carranza as connected to overdoses involving Park View High School students. Deputies searched his home, finding 100 pills and around $1,000 in cash. Some students were hospitalized with suspected overdoses, but the school didn’t confirm controlled substances involvement.
Sheriff Mike Chapman labeled the case concerning due to the drug impact on students. Melendez-Carranza will be handed over to ICE after resolving local charges, with no timeline for further arrests.
DHS highlighted that under President Trump, ICE focuses on illegal aliens charged with crimes. They stated approximately 70% of ICE arrests involve those accused or convicted in the U.S.
