Ilhan Omar Faces Federal Investigation Amid Trump Criticism

Federal Probes Into Ilhan Omar’s Financial Disclosures and Immigration

U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar is under federal investigation related to her financial disclosures. This development follows a raid on her Washington, D.C.-area home by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents. The raid is part of an ongoing criminal investigation into her immigration paperwork.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro confirmed that her office is examining congressional disclosures about businesses owned by Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett. President Donald Trump renewed his criticism of Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, calling her a “terrible person” and “terrible congresswoman.” He refrained from expressing whether he wants her deported following the raid.

Details of the Raid and its Implications

The search at Omar’s residence occurred three weeks before the midterm elections. A naturalized U.S. citizen born in Somalia, Omar denies any wrongful actions. She accuses the Trump administration of targeting political enemies and using federal law enforcement for intimidation.

“Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar stated on X. She asserted that Trump has targeted her with baseless accusations for years and vowed not to be silenced.

Jeanine Pirro confirmed that her office is looking into Omar’s financial disclosures. She emphasized that the investigation will follow the facts regardless of the House’s actions. Previous disclosures listed assets valued between $6 million and $30 million. Omar later corrected these figures, citing accounting errors.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Office of Congressional Conduct previously recommended dismissing allegations against Omar. However, with Pirro’s announcement, Omar faces two separate federal investigations.

HSI Raid and Immigration Allegations

Agents conducted a search of Omar’s residence on October 12th. The search relates to alleged immigration offenses, including false statements and conspiracy in immigration paperwork.

Fox News reported that the investigation involves allegations of fraud with documents related to her immigration history. The timing of the raid, close to the midterm elections, has sparked discussion. Traditionally, the Justice Department avoids such actions near elections to prevent partisan interference.

Trump’s Ohio Rally Remarks

During a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, Trump criticized Omar’s Somali origins and questioned her constitutional rights. “She’s a disaster,” he said, further criticizing Somalia. His comments provoked chants of “deport” from the audience.

Trump emphasized that he had no personal involvement in the search on Omar’s residence. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance stated the administration will investigate credible allegations but not pursue non-existent cases.

Could Deportation Be Possible?

Omar arrived in the U.S. as a refugee and became a naturalized citizen in 2000. Trump’s administration alleges she married her brother to help him enter the U.S. This claim, long circulated, remains unproven. Omar denies the allegation, and no evidence has been shown that she committed immigration fraud. Her situation differs from non-citizens facing routine deportation, as no deportation proceedings have been announced against her.
