House Passes Stop Insider Trading Act with Stock Purchase Restrictions

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a significant bill aimed at curbing insider trading among lawmakers. The Stop Insider Trading Act proposes restrictions on future stock purchases by legislators, their spouses, and dependent children. While existing stock holdings can be retained, any plans to sell covered investments must be disclosed between seven and 14 days before transactions occur.

This legislative move stems from longstanding demands for Congress members to curb their stock trading activities to prevent potential conflicts of interest. Despite passing in the House, the bill’s success in the Senate is uncertain due to an added voter ID provision, which is expected to complicate its approval.
