Historic documents were taken out of an exhibit space beneath the Lincoln Memorial due to temperature issues in their display cases. The move occurred on July 16, when temperatures reached unsafe levels.
One of these documents is a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation, signed by President Abraham Lincoln. It had been showcased at the Lincoln Memorial undercroft and was removed as a precaution.
As of Monday morning, a spokesperson for the donor confirmed these documents remained unharmed.
