Heat Wave Strikes U.S. and Europe

A severe heat wave continues to strike the United States and parts of Europe, setting record-high temperatures and posing significant health risks. Temperatures have been consistently soaring between 90 to 100 degrees across much of the nation and are expected to shift south and west soon. The heat has caused disruptions in July Fourth celebrations, with many events canceled or delayed. This intense weather stems from a heat dome affecting areas from the Midwest to the East Coast.

Consequently, more than 160 million people, nearly half of the U.S. population, have received heat alerts. Local authorities, summer camp organizers, and community leaders are taking measures to safeguard vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly from heat-related health threats.

Europe faces its own challenges, with France recording an additional 1,000 deaths during its record-breaking heat wave. Experts voice concerns over climate change, which appears to be intensifying these extreme weather events. They attribute these conditions to significant greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel consumption.
