GOP Gears Up for Third Reconciliation Package Amidst Congressional Deadlock

Congress is working to finalize a third reconciliation package. The Chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), Rep. August Pfluger from Texas, shared a positive outlook in an interview on the Ruthless Podcast. He stated, “On affordability, on fraud, and on defense, I think that we’re going to run a two-minute drill.” Pfluger indicated that planning was underway for these efforts.

Reconciliation is a budget-related process that allows legislation to pass in the Senate by a simple majority. Usually, other types of legislation need 60 votes to surpass the filibuster hurdle.

“My plan would force Congress to stop overspending your hard-earned money,” said Sen. Rand Paul.

Pfluger addressed the use of reconciliation to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP). “I’m hopeful about this country,” he remarked. “But it is a sad state of affairs when you have to do partisan-only bills like reconciliation, especially for defense-related things.” The House is anticipated to vote on the immigration-focused reconciliation bill soon, following the Senate’s approval last week.

Podcast co-host Josh Holmes echoed Pfluger’s sentiments. He noted that Democrats pushed the issue on a partisan basis. “Particularly at a time of war, it used to be an afterthought,” Holmes said.

Rep. Pfluger elaborated on the third bill, focusing on affordability, tackling fraud, and defense. The bill also includes measures for housing, energy, and healthcare as key elements. “3.0 is us going into our districts, listening to our constituents,” Pfluger stated. He acknowledged concerns about inflation, housing, energy, and healthcare among voters.

Pfluger emphasized the importance of giving Republicans a platform for the midterm elections. “We must show our constituents that we hear them,” he said. “We know there’s fraud in many states, and we’re going after it.”

The Ruthless podcast is available on all platforms and viewable on YouTube.

Fraud has become a significant theme for Republicans as elections approach. Vice President JD Vance’s Fraud Task Force revealed extensive government waste worth billions. Pfluger’s fellow Texan, Rep. Brandon Gill, recently highlighted fraud in a widely viewed hearing. Additionally, the Republican nominee for Governor in Ohio, Vivek Ramaswamy, pointed out $1.1 trillion in improper Medicaid payments by state and federal governments.

Pfluger’s insights were shared as part of the Ruthless Midterm Interview Series, which interviews key candidates nationwide. Interviews have already occurred in 15 states, with more scheduled before the November elections.

Voters in Texas and nationwide will participate in the general election on November 3rd.
