Minnesota Fraud Mastermind Sentenced
Aimee Bock, identified as the mastermind of the ‘Feeding Our Future’ fraud scheme, faced a 41.5-year prison sentence handed down by a Minnesota judge. This significant prison term follows the exposure of a fraud involving the theft of nearly $250 million. These funds were intended as COVID relief to feed hungry children. Bock’s defense argued that many actions were beyond her control. However, prosecutors emphasized the significant damage caused, along with the erosion of public trust.
Florida Woman Arrested for Cancer Fraud
Authorities arrested Maribeth Ellen Jones, a 51-year-old resident of Bonita Springs, Florida, for a fraudulent cancer claim. She scammed over 200 individuals out of more than $40,000, suggesting the money was needed for personal debts. This week, Jones voluntarily surrendered at the Naples Jail Center after the issuance of an arrest warrant for grand theft between $20,000 and $100,000, a second-degree felony charge, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
Jones, once an activities director in the community, allegedly fabricated claims of undergoing cancer treatment between 2022 and 2024. Her story convinced over 200 individuals to make donations, thinking they were supporting her medical needs.
Collier County detectives reported that Jones even exaggerated her condition, involving community members in cutting her hair to mimic chemotherapy preparation. These actions led to the creation of a GoFundMe page linked to her personal account, with additional cash and personal checks provided by donors.
A GoFundMe spokesperson commented, “GoFundMe has zero tolerance for the misuse of our platform. We confirm that fundraisers for Maribeth Jones were removed, and her account banned. Through GoFundMe’s Giving Guarantee, over $41,000 was refunded to donors.”
Sheriff Kevin Rambosk labeled this case “appalling” for exploiting the generosity of Collier County residents. He affirmed, “If you lie to steal from the generosity of others, we will arrest you and hold you accountable.”
