AC Milan announced the passing of Franco Baresi, its legendary former captain, at the age of 66. The news brought sadness to fans and the club, marking the end of an era for a player whose career was spent entirely at Milan.
Baresi underwent surgery in August 2025 to remove a pulmonary nodule and began immunotherapy treatment. His final public appearance was during the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, where he carried the torch into San Siro alongside Giuseppe Bergomi.
Milan expressed its sorrow, stating, “His example and integrity will be forever etched into the Club’s DNA, just as his iconic number 6 shirt is.” The club conveyed condolences to Baresi’s family, noting the widespread impact of his loss among fans.

Baresi debuted at Milan at 17 and chose loyalty to the club during difficult times, including relegation to Serie B. By 22, he became captain. Over 700 appearances saw him lead Milan to international triumphs in the ’80s and ’90s.
