Florida Senate Candidate Angie Nixon Calls for Opponent’s Punishment

Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon expressed strong sentiments against her Republican opponent, U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody, during an interview on October 14, 2026. Nixon accused Moody of misappropriation of $10 million intended for sick children, claiming the funds were redirected into political slush funds by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Nixon stated, “Ashley Moody is a lying, cheating, thieving, scamming person who basically took $10 million from sick kids for the Medicaid program. And she rerouted that into two political slush funds for Ron DeSantis to defeat two citizen-led ballot initiatives.” She argued Moody’s actions contributed to ending healthcare for over 440,000 Floridians.

During the interview with CNN host Kasie Hunt, Nixon emphasized her stance on the matter by declaring, “Why would I want to abolish prisons and defund the police when I want her [Moody] locked up and punished in jail for what she has done?” Hunt confirmed Nixon’s statements, asking, “You want your Republican opponent locked up?” to which Nixon replied in the affirmative, insisting on the need for an investigation.

Nixon highlighted a ruling from the District Court of Appeals (DCA) that blocked the grand jury report release, hinting this decision may be affected by political biased appointments, including those from DeSantis. Nixon vowed to push for a thorough investigation into Moody’s actions if she becomes a U.S. senator, noting public outrage over the misuse of funds potentially affecting children’s health outcomes.

Nixon’s comments spread as Moody’s team refrained from responding to media inquiries. Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee (RNC) questioned Nixon’s approach, with spokesperson Emma Hall criticizing her political philosophy and decisions.

While Nixon identifies with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), she clarified to NBC News that she does not consider herself a socialist. She detailed her support for public housing, healthcare, veteran aid, and political reform, describing her opposition’s portrayal of her political identity as inaccurate.

Moody remains uncharged regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds in the Hope Florida settlement controversy. Her actions and affiliations continue to be a focal point of her political opponents, as the campaign unfolds in Florida.
