According to Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer, a motorist noticed a distressed child—part of the group involved—running beside a nearby road. This led to a 911 call. The gathering took place on Sunday in the Columbus suburb, where one person initially entered the river to swim. Tragically, others followed to offer help and ended up in peril themselves.
Search and rescue teams discovered two women in the river on the same day. Emergency personnel rushed them to a hospital, where they were declared deceased. On the following day, spokesperson Tracy Whited confirmed the recovery of three men’s bodies from the river.
