Fireworks Misfire at BMO Stadium During Angel City FC Post-Game Celebration

A fireworks display intended to celebrate Angel City FC’s victory over Orlando Pride at BMO Stadium took an unexpected turn on Friday night. Fireworks set off from the playing field launched into the stands, causing fans to scramble for safety.

Angel City FC, returning from a break, won the match 2-0. However, it was the post-game fireworks that drew the most attention. Videos show the pitch filled with showers of sparks and smoke, with fireworks unexpectedly shooting horizontally into the half-filled stands.

Jade Greenhut, a season ticket holder, witnessed the incident from her seat and recorded the spectacle. “Oh my god!” a woman’s voice exclaimed in her video as at least two fireworks headed into nearby stands, prompting fans to move quickly. “Everybody’s running!” a man commented off-camera.

Angel City FC confirmed that a third-party vendor managed the pyrotechnics. Stephanie Rudnick, the head of communications, mentioned that there were no reports of serious injuries from the incident.

The club stated in a message to The Times: “A fireworks malfunction occurred during the post-match celebration. Our medical and safety teams were prepared, ensuring guests, staff, players, and crew departed safely.” They are working with the vendor to review and address the issue.

Greenhut noted that the stands were relatively empty at the time, as many fans had left during the 20-minute gap between the game and the fireworks. This reduced the potential for injuries. Her ticket ambassador later apologized, explaining past successful shows with another team. Greenhut remarked on the quality of the game, suggesting drones might be a safer alternative for future celebrations.
