FIFA Insists No Football Sale
FIFA firmly stated that it is not selling football, despite criticism over its plan to consult on selling stakes in its World Cup commercial entity to private investors. The governing body reiterated its intent to continue with the consultation period.
Resistance from Football Confederations
FIFA’s proposal faced opposition from several football confederations, including the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), UEFA, and Concacaf, which rejected the idea of selling stakes in the World Cup. UEFA even announced that all 55 European members would boycott FIFA competitions unless the plan was abandoned. Together, AFC, UEFA, and Concacaf represent 137 of FIFA’s 211 member associations.
FIFA’s Commitment to Consultation
FIFA acknowledged the feedback but maintained its commitment to democratic consultation. They emphasized the concept of FIFA Forward Enterprises (FFE), designed to give member associations meaningful commercial opportunities without compromising FIFA’s governance.
Financial Implications
FIFA confirmed financial payouts regardless of opposition to the FFE plan. Opposed MAs would receive $20 million from 2027-30, increasing in subsequent cycles, while those supporting the proposal would receive $40 million in the first cycle.

The AFC stood with UEFA and Concacaf, expressing serious concerns about FIFA’s plan. They highlighted the unprecedented divisions the proposal has created and called for reconsideration to maintain the unity of football.
