FBI Achieves Significant Fraud Prevention Milestones

Expanding Fraud Enforcement

The Department of Justice has launched over 1,000 significant fraud enforcement actions since establishing the National Fraud Enforcement Division. This initiative is a strategic response to schemes targeting federal aid programs including Medicaid, SNAP, HUD, Social Security, and SBA. These programs are essential for supporting the elderly, the sick, and those facing homelessness.

Return of Fugitive Following International Arrest

FBI Director Kash Patel announced the extradition of Manjit Singh Bedi from India. Bedi, accused of stealing over $600,000 in SNAP benefits, had fled the U.S. amidst charges of wire fraud and SNAP fraud involving a grocery store in Tacoma, Washington.

“BACK IN THE U.S. – Manjit Singh Bedi, one of the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters, arrested in September in India,” Patel shared on social media. He emphasized successful collaborations with international law enforcement leading to Bedi’s capture.

Increase in Successful Extraditions

Over the past 20 months, the FBI processed 260 extraditions and removals, marking a 70% increase compared to the previous period. Bedi’s alleged exploitation involved swapping SNAP EBT cards for cash while retaining half of the benefits. Following the indictment, Bedi fled to Canada and then India, prompting a federal arrest warrant issued on May 21, 2026.

Most Wanted Fraudsters Program Achievements

Bedi is the sixth fugitive apprehended through the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters list since its creation. The program recently saw a substantial healthcare fraud takedown of $6.5 billion.

An FBI reward of up to $150,000 was offered for information leading to Bedi’s apprehension. Now, he is set to face justice in the U.S. Patel acknowledged the vital role of international partners in securing Bedi’s return.
