Investigation and Motive

Sheriff Edwards described the incident as a burglary and noted that Basco later shot himself after entering a bathroom. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

A video from the previous evening depicted Basco walking near McGill’s home, raising his hands and appearing to shout “God is dead.” Edwards expressed uncertainty over whether Basco was drawn to the house due to a religious sign on the property.

The sheriff shared that Basco lacked a significant criminal record, apart from minor traffic infractions. He suggested there might have been a mental issue influencing Basco’s behavior.

Bobby McGill was remembered for his strong belief and familial dedication, inspiring those around him with his faith.

McGill’s granddaughter noted, “My Papaw loved the Lord above all else & he loved his family with his whole heart.” She expressed hope for eternal reunion, asking for prayers for the family.
