Residents of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District elected Everton Blair to complete Rep. David Scott’s term, following the lawmaker’s death in April. This result comes from a projection by The Associated Press. Blair triumphed over Marcye Scott, David Scott’s daughter, in the special runoff election held on Tuesday.
Blair previously served as the chair of the Gwinnett County School Board. In the initial nonpartisan special election on July 28, he ranked second among five candidates, with Scott leading. Both advanced to the runoff, where Blair emerged victorious.
Despite this win, Blair will only serve the remaining months of Rep. Scott’s term, which concludes in January. His earlier performance saw him finish third in the May 19 Democratic primary for the full two-year term.
In November, voters will choose between Democratic state Rep. Jasmine Clark and Republican Jonathan Chavez for the full term starting in January. Georgia’s 13th District has historically leaned Democratic. In the 2024 elections, Scott secured about 72% of the vote, while then-Vice President Kamala Harris achieved approximately 71% in the district.
